Write the letter to the partner you were given in class.
Felicia and Randolph are partners by default.
Darren please write to Mitchel (yes, Mitchel this means that lucky you will receive two letters!)
Tonight you need to start
pulling together your thoughts about the essays that we have been reading(“What
Is Intelligence,” “Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass,” The C Word in
The Hallways,””. In the essay that you will be writing, I will ask you to
compare and contrast at least two of these essays (you may choose to do three)
in order to communicate your OWN IDEA.
You will need to be able to accurately summarize the main idea of each
essay, use direct quotes from the essays to substantiate your claims, and show
your readers how the similarities and differences between these essays lead you
to your own idea/judgment. To start you
on this process, I am asking you to write a letter to a friendly audience: a
classmate.
BASED ON YOUR READING OF THE ESSAYS
and your own experiences, write a letter to a classmate explaining your
thoughts about society. You may want to
introduce yourself briefly in this letter, but the main emphasis of your
writing should be on trying to get your fellow college student interested in
the ideas you are developing. Although
your classmate has read the same essays as you, s/he may not remember them
clearly, or may have skipped reading the one you have chosen. For this reason, you need to provide a brief
summary of at least two essays that you are working with, and at least two
direct quotations. Use this letter as a
place to figure out what you are thinking and as a place you can engage someone
else with your thinking!
At least two pages, typed, double-spaced.
